About

Lolitta Ho

In 2003, Lolitta suffered from a brainstem stroke and fell into a coma.

When she was first sent to the hospital, she was told that she had only 5% chance of surviving. Following the surgery, she spent time in many hospitals for rehabilitation. In order to regain the use of her hands, she spent time practicing how to pick up and move various items from place to place. From a rollator walker to crutches, Lolitta learned to walk after being discharged. Going through physiotherapy and occupational therapy, her process of recovery has been remarkable: she can now walk alone and unaided, or with only a walking stick and minimal assistance.

Despite losing both mobility and speech, she strived to continue her education through the Open University of Hong Kong. Later, she was accepted to the Chinese University of Hong Kong to pursue a degree in business administration. She managed to finish all of her studies while going back and forth to the hospital each day. As a survivor and a fighter, she was selected in the 14th Ten Outstanding Warriors of Regeneration Award organized by the Regeneration Society in 2010.

Having lived in Hong Kong for most of her life, Lolitta believes that people with disabilities frequently lose out because of social injustice and intolerance. In her daily life, Lolitta often encounters instances of discrimination against people with disabilities. Supported by her family, these experiences motivate her to imagine ways to make Hong Kong a more inclusive place, advocate disability rights, and empower others like her. Lolitta has actively volunteered with a number of social service organizations, written articles to tackle misconceptions about people with disabilities, and spoken to the public and on television on many occasions. She also works for the SENsational Consultancy as a content writer.

Lolitta hopes to raise awareness on disability rights, eliminate prejudice and bias, and push society forward in the direction of acceptance and inclusion. Through Resolve’s Social Justice Fellowship Program, she wishes to learn more about social justice, and connect with more peers who are also concerned with disability and empowerment.

In her free time, Lolitta goes out on frequent trips in Hong Kong.
