Although Liam was not born in Hong Kong, he sees Hong Kong as his true home. He tries to live by the Lion Rock Spirit that has shaped the people of Hong Kong, who unite and refuse to give up even in the face of hardship.
As a transgender man, Liam sees injustice all around him, and recognizes the ways in which social inequalities challenge minoritized communities. Originally termed “Gender Identity Disorder”, being transgender is no longer regarded as a type of disability. However, people who struggle with gender dysphoria continue to be discriminated against.
Often labeled a “ladyboy” or “transvestite”, and sensitive to the indignities that transgender people face while encountering the police, for instance, Liam seeks ways to advance social justice. He is committed to fighting for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, and making his home more livable and equitable for all. In his mind, disability rights are essential because they are basic human rights. Considering the various mental health challenges that transgender youth are particularly susceptible to, Liam is passionate about disability rights.
Liam is an associate degree student and an activist. Currently in cooperation with The Association of World Citizens Hong Kong China (AWCHK) and Sexuality For All, he focuses on public education on topics related to transgender issues, and empowering transgender people. In the future, he will be working with AWCHK to release a photography project titled Transcendence. Committed to building safe spaces, he is preparing to launch a non-governmental organisation to connect transgender youth with the local transgender community. He applied for the Social Justice Fellowship Program to acquire knowledge on how to start an organization, build networks to exchange ideas on transgender empowerment and activism.
Liam spends his leisure time singing, watching documentaries, bartending and cooking.
