Jimmy Wu

Finance practitioner Jimmy is a laughter yoga tutor eager to dive into the world of social entrepreneurship. Through the Fellowship he intends to network and deepen his passion, working together to spread positivity and enhance the public’s mental wellbeing.

Local Hongkonger, Jimmy, sees the city as a port of social innovation: a place where opportunities for social change blossom and create momentum for future generations of changemakers. After his experience trying to ethnic minority womens in his housing estate through yoga, he stumbled upon laughter yoga, which combines laughter with elements of yoga. Seeing the potential in laughter yoga as a tool to promote self-healing, especially in times of strife in his own life and during the COVID-19 pandemic and his rise and fall after graduation, he grew into a rigorous practitioner. He often leads sessions with his friends to help promote its benefits among a wider audience. His five-year social justice goal is to promote laughter yoga as a tool for positive thinking among diverse communities in Hong Kong.

Jimmy takes on a variety of voluntary roles. For instance, he acts as the Internal Vice President at Rotaract Club of Hong Kong Financial Center, initiating activities like beach cleaning and mental health awareness talks for youth. Furthermore, he serves as a Business Development Executive at the Young Historian Initiative, which initiates academic conferences for history undergraduates and postgraduates to nurture future academic professionals in Hong Kong, while organizing cultural awareness activities to educate the public about local history. Additionally he serves as one of the youth leaders in church, putting youth’s social innovation journey in God’s hands. He also organizes educational programs with his team of partners to teach children about Sustainable Development Goals and build leadership skills.

Jimmy was compelled to join the Fellowship to engage with talented and passionate people and develop a sharper vision for how to effectively promote laughter yoga. In his free time, he enjoys meditation through sunsetting with espresso martini, volunteering, and reading.
