Born and raised in Hong Kong, Janice is a passionate advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights and gender equity education. She is the co-founder of Onebookhalf Gender Space, a social enterprise with a mission to educate, promote and advocate for gender equality and LGBTQIA+ rights in Hong Kong.
Identifying as a woman and lesbian, Janice is a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community. Her journey of self-discovery began when she was 12 years old, and in university, she advocated for sexual minorities by joining the student-led campus organization ActionQ before subsequently co-founding Onebookhalf Gender Space.
Janice currently works in the Partnership & Resources Development Team at Food Angel, one of Hong Kong’s leading food rescue and food assistance nonprofits. To Janice, (e)quality education means ensuring equal access to quality education for all students regardless of their background. She believes that Hong Kong students are exposed to intimidating and often abstinence-based education around gender and sexuality. Consequently, she is dedicated to improving access to comprehensive gender and sexuality education for young people.
Janice also kickstarted a mentoring program with Onebookhalf Gender Space that allows participants to learn from gender equity/DEI professionals. Through the Fellowship, Janice hopes to grow professionally and personally while gaining transformative experience on her journey to becoming a leader. She is also excited to expand her networks by influencing and connecting with people who share similar goals so that she can devise more sustainable organizational strategies for her social enterprise, as well as promote gender-related concepts within the school curriculum.
In her free time, she loves to spend time with close ones, going on coffee adventures, exploring the city, and saving some alone time to step back and unwind with a movie.
