About

Hope Wong

Steadfast in her belief that “social justice is not lone-wolf work”, Hope advocates diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) as a young queer professional. She is motivated to collaborate with inspiring fellows to innovate solutions on DEI and help multicultural individuals regain a stronger sense of identity and belonging in Hong Kong.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Hope spent her childhood feeling like an outsider as she lacked the language and platform to express her identity fully. As a young, queer professional of Asian heritage, her intersectional identity in different parts of the world offers her a unique perspective and drive to pursue diversity and inclusion. After spending her formative years in Europe and Australia, she returned to her hometown and embarked on a journey of self-discovery, with a commitment to promoting a more inclusive Hong Kong.

Recently working as the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Lead at the English Schools Foundation, Hope witnesses the gaps in curriculum and teaching approaches between international and public school systems. To her, quality education should look beyond school curriculum or content and work toward the betterment of student’s well-being and nurturing a sense of belonging. She also believes having the ability and opportunity to access educational resources determines whether a student is more likely to be able to harness the advances in technology and accessibility to make a difference. Hope joins the Fellowship with the hope of collaborating with brilliant minds who share the same aspirations in creating equal opportunities to advance the goals of DEI.

Hope also works with Gender Empowerment to support the local transgender community by providing gender transition support services, as well as assisting in public education seminars and workshops. She also had experience working with various organizations, such as WISE HK, Community Business, Society of True Light, The Trevor Project, the Zubin Foundation and HerFund.

Hope is an artist/designer who spends her spare time practising visual arts. She also enjoys playing in a band, doing gigs, watching jazz shows, rock climbing and bouldering.
