Florence is the Founder and Executive Director of CantoGather, a non-profit focused on promoting quality language and multicultural education. To her, the Fellowship is a platform to meet peers with a similar passion for education and spark ideas about how we can make Hong Kong a more equal city for ethnically diverse communities.
Florence envisions Hong Kong to be a place where all ethnically diverse members are given equal opportunities in education, and that everyone in the community are “seen, loved, and appreciated for the diversity they bring to the city”.
Apart from being a part-time dentist, Florence is currently the Founder and Executive Director of CantoGather, a non-profit social enterprise founded in 2016 that focuses on delivering quality language and multicultural education to non-Chinese children. Through this initiative, she aims to ensure a brighter future for marginalized communities by bridging gaps in cultural knowledge and overcoming ethnic barriers. Her plan is to develop CantoGather into a self-sustainable social enterprise and elevate its impact on a wider community, including increasing non-Chinese speakers’ Chinese competency and the wider community’s cultural literacy to increase their educational and job opportunities through working with schools.
To Florence, her vision of (e)quality education highlights the importance of not only providing educational opportunities for all and fully equipping the city’s next generation with all-round skills but also offering quality education, which is crucial for the holistic development of individuals. She joins the Fellowship in hopes of developing her networks with like-minded people and sparking ideas as a team, collectively making Hong Kong a diverse and equal society through education. She also wishes to gain strategic training to streamline her organizational goals and better plan for the future development of CantoGather.
In her spare time, she enjoys eating, sleeping, reading, photography, hiking, and bouldering.
