Every Action Matters
In 2021, “allyship” was chosen by Dictionary.com as word of the year. The concept of “allyship” and “active bystander” have increased in global significance since 17-year-old Darnella Frazier’s viral video recording the death of George Floyd caught the public’s attention on the issue of racism. More and more people have also grown their interest in the concept of bystander intervention in the wake of #MeToo or anti-Asian hate during the COVID pandemic.

EQUALITY TOOLKIT
Have you ever wondered what allyship means in the Hong Kong context and how to practically go about being an ally in everyday settings like your school, workplace or neighborhood? How to interrupt oppressive moments when you witness small injustices around you? Or how to use your privilege to take small steps to advance equality for others?
Supported by the Equal Opportunities Commission, Every Action Matters includes the release of an Equality Toolkit, “Everyday Actions for Equality in Hong Kong: A Toolkit for Allies”, on how to be an ally and active bystander on the areas of race, gender and disability and a series of experiential virtual workshops.
With the participation of Resolve’s community of Fellows, the toolkit covers areas such as reflection on identity and privilege, understanding of what constitutes a microaggression and how to apologize if you accidentally commit one, mock scenarios of bystander intervention, do’s and don’ts of allyship, stories of community care and more.
