2022 Fellowships

2022 | Wellbeing Reimagined: inclusive and accessible health for all

Since 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought health to the forefront of everyone’s mind, with our wellbeing and that of those we care about being a daily concern.

Health is a right, not a privilege. The pandemic has changed our collective understanding of what constitutes wellbeing and the urgency of viewing health as a human right.

BACKGROUND

Although infection rates of COVID-19 have been relatively low in Hong Kong compared to the rest of the world, the prolonged nature of the pandemic and related infection containment measures mean everybody’s life has been impacted in one way or another. However, research has shown that people from low-income backgrounds have experienced a bigger decline in their physical and mental health during the pandemic than their wealthier neighbors.

The thematic pursuit stemmed from our experience witnessing how the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated and further entrenched many deep-rooted inequalities and socioeconomic divisions within our community.

WHAT WE DID

As we unveiled our 2021-2024 Strategic Plan, which sets the stage for our next trilogy of Fellowships, we focused on the overarching theme of “Dignity and Social Mobility for All”. After consultation with a wide range of key thought leaders and hearing from our Resolve Fellows, health and wellbeing emerged as the preferred starting point for that exploration. We want to bring together emerging leaders and leading individuals who are interested in improving and reimagining the health system and promoting and safeguarding wellbeing, particularly among communities that suffer from health disparities.

FELLOWS & MENTORS

19 aspiring community leaders took part in our Fellowship while 20 experienced individuals representing different sectors and professions served as the program’s mentors. After 2 years of organizing virtual workshops, we adopted a hybrid approach in transitioning to half-day in-person sessions. We also strengthened the mentoring component of the Fellowship by rolling out open recruitment initiatives.

IMPACT

  • 87% of Fellows think they would not have achieved what they had without Resolve’s support
  • 73% of Fellows built connections outside their own communities
  • 100% of Mentors said they continue the relationship with their mentee after the Fellowship
